The maritime industry is highly dependent on experience, trust and peer knowledge, yet accessing the right information isn’t always easy.
Seafarers often struggle to find reliable information, junior mariners hesitate to approach seniors due to rank and hierarchy, and staying updated with industry news and developments is difficult. For people looking to enter the industry, uncertainty around career paths, credibility and fraudulent opportunities adds another layer of complexity.
Sea & Beyond saw an opportunity to bridge this gap by bringing mariners together in one trusted community.

The Challenge
Sea & Beyond had strong career offerings across jobs, courses and mentorship, but lacked a dedicated space for maritime professionals to connect, exchange knowledge and learn from each other.
The opportunity was to turn the platform from a collection of career services into a connected maritime career ecosystem.
Research and Insights
We conducted interviews with mariners across different ranks and career stages to understand how they seek information, interact with their peers, make career decisions, and the challenges they face along the way.
This helped us identify the behaviours, gaps and opportunities that shaped the community experience.
What We Identified
Through understanding the existing ecosystem and user needs, we identified three core community needs:

These insights gave us a clear direction for what the experience needed to delivered relevant, meaningful, and built around the realities of maritime careers.

We designed a dedicated Community module that brings professional networking and knowledge sharing into the Sea & Beyond experience.
